Girl Claims School Bully Knocked Her Teeth Loose

LINCOLN HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — An 8-year-old girl said she's scared to go to school after a bully knocked her teeth loose.

Karla Covarrubias said the kids in her class at Gates Street School in Los Angeles have been tormenting her for months.

"I don't like going to school because maybe it could happen to me again," she told CBS2's Adrianna Weingold.

Covarrubias' father, Mario, said the bullies have called his daughter fat and told her she eats like a pig.

Covarrubias said kids in her second-grade class got physical last month.

"She just told me to buy her cookies, but I told her I didn't have any money, and that's when she pushed me," she said.

Covarrubias said she fell face-first into the corner of a bench.

Mario said the bully knocked four of his daughter's teeth loose.

Covarrubias now needs surgery to fix a fracture in her jaw.

"I saw my daughter was bleeding a lot and they don't care, they don't do anything," Mario said.

Los Angeles Unified School District officials said they are aware of the case and it's something they're investigating.

They also said the school principal has been in contact with the Covarrubias family.

Mario, however, said the principal has done little to help.

"He said he talked already with the all kids and the kids say Karla fell down by herself, but it's not true," he said.

Covarrubias said she hasn't been back to school since the incident.

"The teachers don't care what happened to me, not even the principal," she said.
