LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A rescue dog named Max has been reunited with his owner after being stolen along with the owner’s car on Friday.

Max turned up Sunday morning, still inside the stolen vehicle.

The car was found in a parking lot at the La Brea Tar Pits, not far from where it was taken last week — a Marie Callender’s restaurant parking lot about 500 feet away.

Animal lovers spread the word about Max’s disappearance via social media on Friday.

Max was given water by a security guard who assumed Max’s owners were coming back to claim him.
