The Forum To Host MTV's 2014 VMAs

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The "Moonman" is landing in Inglewood.

MTV's 2014 Video Music Awards will make its return to the West Coast this summer when it airs live from the Forum on Sunday, August 24.

It will mark the first major award show to ever take place at the historic Forum, which reopened its doors in January following a $100 million renovation effort that includes a modernized arena bowl, approximately 8,000 square feet of new event level concessions, and a 40,000-square-foot outdoor terrace.

Since its re-opening in January, the Forum has hosted some of the biggest names in music and entertainment including a sold-out, six-night residency by the Eagles, Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, Paul Simon & Sting and Kings of Leon.

Inglewood mayor James Butts said the return of the VMAs is an important milestone in the Forum's own comeback.

"The Forum is back, better than ever and ready to shine for decades more," said Butts. "We are truly excited to shine a spotlight on the reinvented Forum and our great city."

Once known as the Fabulous Forum, the former home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings was acquired in 2012 by the Madison Square Garden Company.
