Man Will Be Sentenced To 49 Years After Pleading Guilty To Firing Upon Police Officers
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 50-year-old man charged with shooting at a friend and two LAPD officers was sentenced to nearly 50 years in state prison Wednesday.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Cliff A. Gershowitz, 50, pleaded to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and one count of attempted murder.
Deputy District Attorney Garrett Dameron said Gershowitz will be sentenced to 49 years and four months when he returns to Superior Court on May 7.
Gershowitz, a convicted felon, also admitted to discharging a firearm and prior conviction allegations.
The DA said Gershowitz admitted shooting a male acquaintance during a Feb. 10 argument in the 7100 block of Yolanda Avenue in Reseda. The friend was seriously wounded but survived, authorities said.
When Los Angeles police officers responded to that assault call, Gershowitz opened fire on them as well.
One officer was struck in the arm, treated and released from the hospital. The other officer was not injured, authorities said.
