38-Year-Old Santee Man Accused Of Stabbing Nurse In Ear With Pencil

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com)  — Authorities said a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a nurse at a hospital in Torrance.

LA Sheriff's Deputies say that Thomas Robert Fredette of Santee, walked into a hospital in the 1000 block of West Carson Street around 9:20 a.m. Sunday.

After clearing a weapons screening area, officials said Fredette encountered a group of nurses, grabbed one of them from behind and stabbed her in the ear with a sharp object.

The victim was able to free herself from the suspect and flee. She was able to direct deputies with the County Services Bureau to the location of the alleged stabber and he was taken into custody.

Authorities said a pencil, believed to be the weapon, was recovered at the scene.

The victim received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Fredette was booked at the Inmate Reception Center and charged with a assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail. The suspect is due to appear in Torrance Court on Tuesday.

Authorities gave no motive for the attack.

The investigation is on-going, officials said.

A 26-year-old man is in custody after stabbing a nurse  at a hospital in Sylmar around 2 a.m. Sunday. The suspect, identified as Romiro Carnalia of Los Angeles, allegedly stabbed the nurse several times in the upper and lower torso with a knife.
