LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday arrested a certified financial advisor in connection with charges of financial abuse of the elderly.

Jose Carbajal was a guest speaker at a financial planning seminar in Downey that had six attendees at the time of his arrest.

He was booked into the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $325,000 bail.

Authorities reportedly identified Carbajal as a suspect after an elderly woman contacted deputies after receiving a hefty tax bill from the IRS back in August of 2013.

“The elderly woman learned from the IRS that the tax bill resulted from a large monetary transfer associated with her investment account, which was managed by Carbajal,” according to a written statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Other alleged victims of Carbajal were subsequently identified, according to authorities.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call Detective Michael Barlow with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Fraud and Cyber Crimes Bureau at (562) 522-6056.

“Certified Financial Advisor”. Please be careful of how you manage your money, especially elder loved ones’ funds.
