Ex-High School Volunteer Sentenced For Taking Inappropriate Images Of Male Teen Student

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said Friday that a former high school volunteer was sentenced to one year in county jail for taking explicit and inappropriate images of a male teen student.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Andres Fernandez, 31, of South El Monte, was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Fernandez was also placed on five years probation. He pleaded no contest last month to a felony charge of possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.

Prosecutors said the ex-high school volunteer had a party at his home that was attended by several students, one of whom got drunk and passed out. While the youth was unconscious, Fernandez took inappropriate pictures of the teen, according to prosecutors.

Fernandez's coworker later came across the pictures and contacted authorities.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Special Victims Bureau.
