Jurors To Decide Fate Of Alleged Rapist In Bizarre 'Spiritual Cleansings'

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — The trial of a San Clemente man accused of sexually assaulting two women who believed his claims of being a spiritual cleanser was underway Thursday.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports attorneys for both sides in the case acknowledged that Alberto Ramirez rubbed whole raw eggs on the women's bodies before engaging in sexual activity.

Ramirez, 39, faces two counts of rape and four other sexual offense charges. He could get 75 years to life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors say two women were raped by a man who lured them to Orange County motel rooms for so-called "spiritual cleansings" that involved rubbing whole eggs on their bodies.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred in 2012. Prosecutors say Ramirez convinced the women that he is a spiritual healer and he could perform a ritual with an egg that cleanses negative energy.

After he booked motel rooms and performed the ritual, he allegedly attacked the women.

In court on Wednesday, Deputy Public Defender Angela Kung questioned the women's accounts of assault.
