Survey: Lakewood, 7 Other SoCal Cities Rated Most Boring In California

LAKEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Is it possible that an entire region known for entertainment also has the state's most boring cities?

A recent survey from Movoto.com suggests that eight of California's most boring cities are here in the Southern half, with the city of Lakewood topping out as the single most boring city in the state.

"I think the list is bunk, and Lakewood rocks," one resident said. "We don't have a lot of night clubs, but we do have some cool spots for bars."

A number of factors, including nightlife, parks and recreation, accessibility to outdoor activities, and other demographics were taken into account when making the list.

While there were residents who both agreed and disagreed with the survey's list, the majority of people came to their city's defense.

"It's a good place to raise children," resident Linda Hawes said. "There's lots of parks, and they have lots of activities for free."

Even Mayor Todd Rogers spoke with CBS2/KCAL9's Rachel Kim to object to the list.

"Lakewood is a great place to live," Rogers said. "It's a great bedroom community, and it's a place where people are really proud to call home."

The tremendous amount of fast food restaurants in Lakewood, relative to those in neighboring cities, also reportedly impacted the list's standings. The thought was that the number of chain restaurants decreases opportunities for unique dining experiences.

The low percentage of young residents, of ages 20 to 34, also influenced Movoto's decision to crown Lakewood on the top of the list.

The other seven Southern California cities to rank in the top 10 on the list include Lancaster at No. 2, West Covina at No. 3, Victorville at No. 4, Alhambra at No. 6, Ontario at No. 7, Hesperia at No. 9, and Carson at No. 10.
