Girl Killed, Mom & Sibling Injured After Chase Suspect Evades Police

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA.com) — A 12-year-old girl was killed, and her mother and sibling were injured after a chase suspect evaded Westminster police Thursday night.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. at Trask Avenue and Hoover Street.

Westminster police Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze told CBS2's Brittney Hopper that a mother and her two children were in a van when a suspect crashed into them.

"Officers spotted what they thought was a wanted person they were looking for. They tried to stop him and the suspect rammed one of the police cars. The officers gave chase, a very short chase, and the suspect ran the stop sign here and collided into that family and another car. The suspect's vehicle flipped over. And the suspect climbed out the window and got away," he said.

The three victims were taken to the hospital, where the girl later died.

Authorities are now searching for the suspect.

"We have multiple agencies out here…Cypress K-9, the bloodhound, sheriff's, you name it, we're gonna put every resource [out there that we] can until this guy is brought to justice," Knauerhaze said.
