19-Year-Old Man Shot In Pacoima When Craigslist iPhone Sale Goes Sour

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man who had arranged to buy an iPhone from someone via Craigslist was shot in Pacoima Thursday when the deal went awry, police reported.

A man responded to a Craigslist posting for an iPhone 5 and arranged to meet the seller shortly before 7 p.m. at Fellows Avenue and Corcoran Street, Foothill police said.

The buyer came to the meeting spot with his 34-year-old father and 18-year-old girlfriend, where the seller was waiting with the phone.

There was allegedly a dispute over whether it was an iPhone 5. Investigators say the suspect tried to grab the victim's money and they began to scuffle.

The suspect then left the vehicle where the transaction was taking place, whistled and three more people arrived. One of those individuals shot at the vehicle, striking the 19-year-old, and drove away.

The victim, who was only described as Hispanic, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound in the upper right back. He was listed in stable condition.

Police are currently searching for the four suspects involved.
