Authorities Launch Shooting Probe In Upscale Dana Point

DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have launched a shooting investigation in an upscale area of southern Orange County.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said on their official Twitter page (@OCSD) that one person has been injured and taken to an area hospital.

The shooting investigation was launched Sunday morning at a home in the 32500 block of Crete Road in Dana Point.

The OCSD also said they have located the victim's vehicle in the San Onofre area but are continuing to search for a possible suspect.

Authorities also said they recovered the weapon they believe was used in the shooting.

San Clemente resident Rob Elseewi knew things were unusual this morning with all the commotion on the street and in the air.

"It was amazing what was going on," Elseewi said, "We had all these helicopters flying above us. And they were giving us all these warnings about the gentleman they were looking for. Everyone was freaked out."

Deputies checked every car going in and out of the area to make sure the gunman was hiding out.

"We have a name and a person of interest we believe to be the suspect," said Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff's Department. "Until we gather more information we are not releasing more details."

The homeowner was shot in the hand and also suffered cuts to his face.

The gunman took the homeowner's Mercedes. It was later found abandoned in San Onofre after a short pursuit.
