Firefighters Call Off River Search For Reported Victim After 40 Minutes, Call Declared False Alarm

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters called off a search along the Los Angeles River after a 40-minute effort, following reports that a victim had fallen off a bridge.

Fire officials say the 9-1-1 call reported that someone had fallen off a bridge at Fletcher Drive, and into the heavy current.

The call, which had been made at 2:17 p.m., was later determined to be a false alarm, according to Erik Scott, a spokesman with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Over 50 firefighters on the ground, as well as in the air, conducted the search all along the river, from Fletcher Drive to the Main Street bridge in Downtown Los Angeles.

No victim was found, according to Scott.
