Man, 44, Charged With Strangling Retired Hollywood High Teacher

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 44-year-old man was charged Thursday with the strangulation murder of a retired Hollywood High School teacher.

Scott Kratlian, who is also known as Scott Porter, was expected to be arraigned sometime Thursday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Kratlian is accused of killing 82-year-old Harry Major, who was found dead around 7:20 p.m. Feb. 12 in Kratlian's apartment in the 1400 block of North Vista Street in the Hollywood area.

Major was an English teacher at Hollywood High School for nearly 30 years and retired in the mid-1980s.

Kratlian was arrested Tuesday.

The suspect's connection with Major was not immediately known.
