Family Desperate To Find Diabetic Mom Last Seen In Mexico

FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — A family is desperate to find a diabetic mother who went missing earlier this month in Mexico.

Leticia Helmy Moreno, 44, of West Covina, went to visit her son in Ensenada.

On Feb. 7, Moreno called her daughter, Mariana Esters, to say she was coming home on Feb. 9 to attend a funeral.

Esters' brother told her he dropped their mom off at the Tijuana border and that was last he saw of her.

Authorities confirm to Esters that Moreno did arrive in Mexico, but they have no record of her ever leaving.

Esters said her mother is usually very active on her Facebook page, but her last post about cooking was on Feb. 8.

"She loved cooking and would always take pictures and describe what she was making," Esters said.

Esters said Mexican authorities, the consulate and the embassy haven't been very helpful in finding her mother.

"No one is helping us find her," Esters said. "I want to figure out what happened to her. Even if an accident happened, even if she is dead, I want her body back."

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz reports that the family plans on filing a missing persons report with the West Covina Police Department.

"She's the type of person who used to call me every day just to gossip, she's my best friend," Esters said.
