REDDING (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff’s Deputies in Redding Sunday purposely burned down a house filled with 60 pounds of explosives.

Authorities said the materials found in the home were highly-unstable.

More than 50 families were evacuated from the area as a precaution.

Investigators said the explosive devices were so unstable that they were unable to even walk on the property without risking that they discharged accidentally.

The explosives were discovered a few weeks ago when the owner of the home was reportedly injured while making model rockets.
