Homeless Camps Perched On San Pedro Cliffs, Much To Residents' Chagrin

SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — From Andre Tocco's San Pedro backyard, there are spectacular views of the ocean, the cliffs and the rocky beach below.

And, tucked away in the bushes, there are homeless camps.

KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports transients are pitching their tents and tarps along the cliffs and some residents say it's become a real problem.

What bothers residents like Tocco the most is the mess. He says he picks up trash along the water's edge, but that some of it is just disgusting.

"Particularly because of the trash and the junk and some other gross things," Tocco said.

Tocco says one of the homeless campsites is on a steep cliff. It's perched approximately 60 feet above the rocky beach below, inviting all sorts of dangerous scenarios for those rolling out of their tent in the morning.

Authorities have cleared out some of the tents, but Tocco says the transients keep coming back.
