Mother Killed, Child Injured After Being Hit By Semi Truck Near Hollywood Middle School

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A woman was killed and her 10-year-old daughter was injured Tuesday when they were hit by a semi truck while in a crosswalk.

The accident happened around 7:45 a.m. in the 13000 block of Bronson Avenue, near Joseph Le Conte Middle School, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports police said the truck, which was carrying bags of cement, hit the woman in her 30s and her child as they crossed the street.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where the woman died. The girl was last listed in stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle did stop and cooperated with authorities.

"It's still under investigation whether he was stopped and just didn't see her," Capt. Rolando Solano said.

It was unclear if he was going to face any charges.

Parent Ira Belgrade, who led a safety committee for nearby Citizens of the World Charter School, said they have been calling for school officials to put in place a permanent crossing guard - who was not present at the time of the crash.

"What happens is the nightmare scenario that we've been trying to avoid," said Belgrade.

Authorities withheld the woman's name pending notification of family members.
