Man, 23, Allegedly Shot At His Birthday Party Near USC

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A young man reportedly was shot Friday night during a birthday party in LA.

The unidentified man was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery, LAPD Lt. John Pinto said.

CBS2's Art Barron says the victim is He was listed in critical condition.

Officers were called at 11:29 p.m. to the fourth floor of the Lorenzo Apartments in the 300 block of Adams Boulevard, a few blocks from University of Southern California, Pinto said.

Witnesses told a videographer at the scene that a 23-year-old man was shot after a fight broke out at his birthday party. Officials said the man wasn't a USC student.

Barron reports at least 75 percent of the tenants in the building are students.

He spoke to several fourth floor residents who said they were watching TV when at least two shots rang out.

One student said, "Obviously parents will freak out about that kind of thing."

Barron also reported the suspect got away but police believe they captured the man's image on surveillance video.

Authorities said that detectives were even called in on their day off to help pursue leads.
