UCLA Womens Basketball Tops Washington State, 79-72

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Atonye Nyingifa scored 30 points Sunday and grabbed 10 rebounds and Thea Lemberger scored 21 and 11 boards as UCLA bead Washington State 79-72.

Nirra Fields scored 16, Corinne Costa 10 and the Bruins (11-12, 5-6 Pacific-12 Conference) outshot the Cougars 43.6 percent to 38.2 percent and out-rebounded them 34-24.

Nyingifa scored six straight buckets and the Bruins used an 8-2 run to lead 14-8. Sage Romberg put the Cougars in front 28-27 with a layup, but UCLA replied with a 7-2 run and led 37-35 at halftime.

Neither team scored for nearly four minutes into the second half. WSU's Lia Galdeira tied it at 53 on a jumper, but UCLA pulled steadily ahead on hot shooting by Lemberger and Nyingifa, who combined for seven free throws down the stretch.

Galdeira led the Cougars (12-10, 6-4) with 15 and four steals, Romberg scored 12 and Tia Presley 11.
