Deputy Squad Car Struck By Car While Investigating Valley Glen Homicide

VALLEY GLEN (CBSLA.com) — While working a homicide crime scene in Valley Glen, a deputy squad car was struck by a suspected drunken driver.

The accident happened on Burbank Boulevard, which had been closed off with crime scene tape as authorities investigated a deadly shooting that occurred late Saturday.

Investigators say a female driver was headed westbound on Burbank Boulevard when she struck the Los Angeles County sheriff's department vehicle, knocking off its bumper.

A deputy seated inside the car was taken to an area hospital while the driver of the second car was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

The deputy was expected to be OK.

Meanwhile, authorities continued to search for the suspected shooter in connection with the homicide that occurred in the parking lot of LA Valley College.

The victim, described only as a male, was shot Saturday evening about 7:30. When deputies arrived on scene, they located a vehicle in the parking lot and the victim just a few feet away.

The man had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Anyone with more information about the shooting was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
