Man Fatally Shot In Parking Lot Of LA Valley College

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man was fatally wounded in a parking lot on the campus of Los Angeles Valley College Saturday evening.

The shooting was reported around 7:30 p.m., according to LA County Sheriff's Deputy Crystal Hernandez.

The victim -- whose name and age were withheld -- was found in his truck in the lot located at the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. The college is located in the Valley Glen area of the San Fernando Valley.

The victim was transported to a hospital, according to the sheriff's department. He was later declared dead.

It was unclear what law enforcement agency would have jurisdiction in the investigation --  the Los Angeles Police Department or the Sheriff's department, which patrols the county's community colleges, Hernandez said.

Reporting for KCAL9 News at 10 p.m., Cristy Fajardo said she observed the LAPD pulling back, indicating Sheriff's were taking over the investigation.
