Officials Hunt Possible Mother-Daughter Duo Who Allegedly Pilfered Woman's Property

MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Officials are looking for a pair of women -- believed to be a mother and daughter -- who allegedly pilfered a woman's property after she accidentally left her purse in a shopping cart last month.

The victim says the women used her credit cards, took money, used gift cards, bought gas and failed to return her diabetic medicines.

Robert Elias, the woman's husband, told KCAL9's Crystal Cruz that he's having a hard time understanding why someone wouldn't return the most personal things.

"This is important to us because we feel that we've basically been robbed without getting mugged or beaten up," Elias said.

He said his wife accidentally left her purse in a shopping cart outside a Super Target in Moreno Valley last month while doing some holiday shopping.

"She had her birthday cards in there, she had her Christmas presents in there...everything," said Elias, "It bothers me."

The couple has been posting reward signs -- complete with surveillance pictures of the alleged thieves.

The couple called police to report the missing purse and its contents. They also reported that Liza's credit card was used at a local gas station.

"They hit the jackpot, they definitely did," said the victim.

Deputies confirmed they're actively working the case but still haven't identified the two women.

Liza has since bought a new purse but the couple would really like to have all of her important documents returned. The purse contained her life, basically -- Medicare cards, Social Security card, checks, all the gift cards.

"If they would've just mailed some of my stuff back to me, I would've been happy. Keep the money. Who cares?," said Liza.
