3 Killed In Fiery SUV Crash In Leimert Park

LEIMERT PARK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say three people were killed in a fiery crash in Leimert Park overnight.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 2:49 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Coliseum Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Investigators say the vehicle, described as a Cadillac Escalade, was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to crashing into a tree and catching fire.

Katherine Main, a spokesperson for the department, says that one person, described as an adult male, survived. He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

"He's gonna be okay but he has multiple broken bones. He was talking. Apparently, he made a phone call right after he got out to his fiancée," said LAPD Detective Chuck Martin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
