Man Sustains Fatal Gunshot Wound In Marina Peninsula

MARINA PENINSULA (CBSLA.com) — A man has been found fatally shot inside an apartment near the Marina Peninsula area.

Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot on Friday morning. They said the 45-year-old man was single and worked for his family, who owed properties in and around Los Angeles, according to CBS2's Cristy Fajardo.

Around 11:45 a.m., the LAPD says the man's family called authorities for a welfare check as they had not heard from him and couldn't reach him, according to the LAPD.

When officers arrived, the located the man's body inside the unit in the 3400 block of Ocean Front Walk.

Authorities do not yet know whether the fatal wound was self-inflicted or whether a crime had occurred.

In the last several months, there have been two known murders in the Venice-Marina del Rey border, leaving residents on edge.

"There's something going on in this neighborhood that we citizens aren't aware of," one resident told Fajardo. "We have to start being more cautious and participate more because there's people moving into the area, we have no clue who they are and what's going on."
