Retired LA Co. Fire Captain Pleads No Contest To Child Sex Abuse Charges

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A retired Los Angeles County fire captain Wednesday pleaded no contest Wednesday to child sex abuse charges involving an underage relative.

Edward John Cervantes, 62, entered his plea to two counts of lewd acts upon a child and continuous sexual abuse, the District Attorney's Office said.

The alleged victim, who is a relative of Cervantes, told authorities that she was molested between 2003 and 2005 while she was in the fifth and sixth grades.

The Whittier resident, who was arrested in September 2013, is free on $250,000 bail.

Cervantes is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 27 for sentencing.
