Family Needs Help With Funeral Expenses For Boy Who Succumbed To Brain Tumor

GARDENA (CBSLA.com) — The Gardena Police Department is asking the public to help a family who recently lost an 8-year-old boy to cancer.

Erick Casillas died on Monday from an inoperable brain tumor he was diagnosed with a little more than a year ago.

Casillas dreamed of being a police officer and weeks before his death, officers gave him a uniform, a badge and a ride-along in a patrol car.

Authorities are now turning to the community to help the family with Casillas' funeral expenses.

"Because he touched us so deeply, his story and his family's situation, we're doing everything we can to help raise money for the family who didn't expect to lose their 8-year-old child," Gardena police Lt. Steve Prendergast said.

Anyone wishing to donate can visit www.juniorfoundation.org or make a deposit into a special account (Account #: 437120921) set up at Chase Bank under the name Erick Casillas or Ana Erica Barragan.
