Traffic Slowly Recovering After Echo Park Water Main Break

ECHO PARK (CBSLA.com) — A water main break in Echo Park caused major traffic tie-ups along a major thoroughfare on Friday night.

The rupture in the 1700 block of Glendale Boulevard at Alvarado Street was reported around 5 p.m., according to authorities.

"As a result, they had to shut down Glendale Boulevard," reported Sky9's Megan Reyes. "The good news is they have opened a portion of Glendale Boulevard."

Five hours following the break, KCAL9's Brittney Hopper said crews were still working hard to clean up the muddy mess.

By 10 p.m. she also reported traffic, which had been backed up for miles earlier in the evening, had returned to normal.

The cause of the water main break remains under investigation.
