Gang Member Convicted In 2006 Fatal Shooting Of Cal State Fullerton Student

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a La Habra criminal street gang member was convicted Friday in the 2006 fatal shooting of a Cal State Fullerton student outside of a Halloween party.

David Anthony Parga, 27, was found guilty of one count of second-degree murder with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death and criminal street gang activity.

The victim, identified as Leland Washington, had attended the party on Oct. 29, 2006, at the invitation of two other friends when he was shot several times in the torso without provocation.

Authorities said Washington had no gang affiliations and was one semester away from graduating. Neither Parga nor Washington knew each another.

Washington was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Parga faces a maximum sentence of 55 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in March of 2014.
