HS Basketball Team Brightens Holidays For Struggling Family Of 8

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The Long Beach Poly High School freshman boys basketball team came together Thursday night to help a struggling family of eight.

CBS2's Serene Branson reports it's been a tough holiday season for Guy and Dorothy Mason, along with their six kids. Dorothy is a breast cancer survivor and Guy suffered an injury that left him out of work.

Team mom Sabrina Sadler heard of the Masons through church and thought the players could learn a valuable life lesson and make a difference.

The team collected toys, clothes and food for the Mason crew.

"It means a lot to me because it's giving back to people who don't really have nothing and it's putting a smile on everyone's face before the holiday," player Tarrean Brown said.

The Masons were extremely grateful for what they received.

"It really wasn't the presents, it was the thought. To be honest, it was the way they came in, the way they hugged us, and that's what Christmas is all about. I thank God for this," Dorothy said.

She added, "This smile is gonna be here for the rest of the year. It's gonna be here. And I'm gonna cry here and there, so it's good."
