Online Petition Pushes To Honor Walker, Rodas With Valencia Street Name

VALENCIA (CBSLA.com) — A growing online petition is pushing to memorialize actor Paul Walker and Roger Rodas with a street name in Valencia, where they were killed in a fiery crash last month.

The petition, hosted by GoPetition.com and signed by more than 800 people, proposes to change Hercules Way to "Walker-Rodas Memorial Way" in Valencia.

Walker, 40, and 38-year-old Rodas, died on Nov. 30. The two were riding in a Porsche GT when it hit a pole on Hercules Way and burst into flames following a charity event for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The exact cause of the crash is unknown.

The petition was started on Dec. 8 by a user named Trent who wrote online:

"Wouldn't it be great if we petitioned the Californian Government and local Santa Clarita Council to get Hercules Avenue renamed to Walker/Rodas Memorial Way. With an international outpouring of love and support - this might be a nice way for people to continue remembering two amazing men, who died tragically."

A Valencia spokeswoman said the city has not received any official request yet, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported.

A change in street names must be approved by the city council.
