Bicyclist Struck And Killed By Metrolink Train In Pacoima

PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — A bicyclist was killed Friday afternoon when a Metrolink train struck him as he attempted to cross the tracks, police said.

The victim was riding his bicycle westbound on Van Nuys Boulevard near San Fernando Road around 3:50 p.m. when he entered the grade crossing, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Red lights were flashing and the arms of the crossing were down at the time, police said. Witnesses reported hearing the train honking as it approached the crossing.

The victim, a 30-year-old Hispanic male, died at the scene. His identity has not been released pending family notification.

The passenger train was traveling to Union Station from the San Fernando / Sylmar Metrolink Station, police said. None of the 58 passengers aboard the southbound train were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
