Bodies Of 2 Neighbors Discovered In Front Yard Of Simi Valley Home

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Tuesday were investigating the suspicious deaths of two people in Ventura County.

The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered around 7 a.m. in the front yard of a home in the 3300 block of Billie Court in Simi Valley, police said.

Fire personnel were initially dispatched to the scene for a "man down" call and discovered the bodies in the yard.

Police told KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen the victims were neighbors.

"This appears to be an isolated incident and there does not appear to be any suspect outstanding," Cmdr. Stephanie Shannon said in a statement.

Simi Valley Police Cmdr. Tony Anzilotti said that a firearm was found at the scene.

"You don't hear a lot of this out here in Simi [Valley]," neighbor Ashley Little told KCAL9's Suraya Fadel on Tuesday night. "So when I heard, I didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe it."

Another neighborhood resident, Sue Bogartz,  believes that the man involved in the incident had been combative with other people on the street.

"He was out front this morning when I left," Bogartz said. "So everyone's telling me. I guess I was lucky that he wasn't just on some rampage that he was zeroing on a specific person. Otherwise, it happened apparently 15 minutes after I left."

A number of other neighbors suggest that the two victims had been arguing and that they were aware of the feud, but that they never thought that it would end with two lives being lost.

The neighborhood is not known as a particularly violent or crime-ridden area of the valley.

"It's very quiet, and it's very safe, you know," a neighbor said. "I feel very safe walking around the neighborhood."

While police are not ruling out the possibility of a murder-suicide, the grieving families of the victims say they were close friends.

Autopsies for the victims are scheduled for Wednesday.

Anyone with additional information about the deaths should contact the Simi Valley police detectives at (805) 583-6969.
