Recycle Thanksgiving Turkey Oil At Local S.A.F.E. Centers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The City Of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation is encouraging those making Thanksgiving turkeys to recycle the cooking oil.

The oil can be dropped off at local S.A.F.E. (Solvents, Automotive, Flammables, Electronics) centers.

"Oil will be recycled for fuel and energy," Sanitation Executive Director Enrique C. Zaldivar said in a statement. "If you are frying a turkey for the holiday, remember pouring the oil down the kitchen sink or drain can clog your house plumbing and sewer pipes and may cause sewage backups and overflows. Recycling fryer oil will help protect our environment as you celebrate the holidays."

The oil, which must be limited to a gallon or less, can be delivered in closed leak-proof containers to one of the six following S.A.F.E. locations:
