Mountain High Opens Early Thanks To 'Perfect Storm'

WRIGHTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood is kicking off its season early this year.

The popular ski resort opened at 8:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving more than 12 inches of snow from last week's storm.

"It was the perfect storm. It just sat over Wrightwood and over Mountain High and just dropped about 12 to 14 inches of fresh snow," said Kim Hermon of Mountain High.

But skiers and snowboarders weren't the only ones who were thrilled to hear the news of the early opening.

"A lot of the businesses, they don't survive unless they have business during the winter. That keeps them going all year round," said Megan Wahl of Yodeler Restaurant.

As an early season special, the resort planned to slash its $69 all-day pass for adults to $45 on Sunday.

"With so much natural snow and snowmaking this will be one of our best openings in years," Karl Kapuscinski, the resort's President and CEO, said in a statement.

The resort is expected to remain open until 4 p.m.
