Water Main Break Damages 20 Cars In Koreatown

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Several vehicles and at least one home were damaged after a water main ruptured in Koreatown.

The Department of Water and Power says the water main break occurred about 3:50 a.m. Saturday morning in the area of North Vermont Avenue between Melrose Avenue and Clinton Street.

The 12-inch rupture occurred in the subterranean garage of a three-story apartment complex, trapping about 20 vehicles.

Erik Scott, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, says crews from the DWP along with the Bureau of Street Services were on scene.

No one was hurt.

Residents were advised to file a claim with their insurance company as well as on the LADWP website, according to KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

Meanwhile, a second water main ruptured nearby at Rosewood and New Hampshire avenues.

No further information was immediately available.
