Adult, 5-Year-Old Wounded In Suspected Gang-Related Shooting In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An adult male and a 5-year-old were shot in the 7000 block of Orange Avenue in Long Beach on Monday.

The shooting occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m., and police believe it may have been gang-related.

A man in his 20s was walking with his bike when a light-colored vehicle pulled up and opened fire.

The child, who was reportedly shot in the stomach and was not moving when deputies arrived on the scene, is believed to be an innocent bystander, while authorities believe the adult male was the intended target.

"At this point it looks like the male adult was definitely the intended target," Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton said. "It's just tragic that the child is playing in front of their house and gets struck by a stray bullet."

The victims were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect or suspects reportedly fled south on Orange Avenue in the light-colored vehicle, according to the Long Beach Police Department's Marlene Arrona.

Anyone with information on the shooting is being asked to call the Long Beach Police Department.
