Coachella Boy Detained For Allegedly Pointing Replica Handgun At Student

THERMAL (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 14-year-old boy has been detained after allegedly pointing a replica handgun at another student on a school campus in Thermal.

The unidentified teen was booked into juvenile hall on Friday afternoon after deputies were called to Toro Canyon Middle School.

They were alerted by school staff after a student reported the Thursday incident.

The school was subsequently placed on lockdown while authorities searched the premises for the student.

The student, a male juvenile from Coachella, was taken into custody without incident.

"During a search of his backpack, a silver lighter made to closely resembled a small revolver was locate," deputies said in a statement issued by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call Deputy Juan Garcia at the Thermal Sheriff's Station at (760) 863-8990.
