Bounce Into Shape With Crunch Gym's New BOING Class

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — For exercise buffs worried about putting too much impact on their joints, Crunch Gym may have a new solution.

The Burbank location has unveiled a fitness class that promises to help members bounce their way to a better body with the help of springed exercise boots.

KCAL9's Stephanie Simmons spoke to fitness instructor Jasmine Artis about the new class, called BOING with Kangoo.

"The shoes reduce the impact of the workout by 80 percent. They are the lowest impact shoes in the world," Artis said.

The shoes are used to add a bounce to your workout. Lisa Marie tested them out for the first time.

"This is a whole new element to working out," she said, admitting, "I was a little scared at first. I felt like I was a little high in the air. But definitely you get used to it."

Crunch began offering the class in Burbank a few weeks ago.

The boots were originally designed to offer runners a low-impact way to workout.

"You do not have to worry about knee injuries, if you are working on losing weight and you are heavier and you feel that impact when you run, this shoe is perfect," Artis said. "And also the shoes weigh two-and-a-half pounds, so what you do not realize is you are getting the sculpting workout for the lower body as well."

The boots balance themselves, so Artis says you do not have to be an expert.

"Everyone loves it. They say it's super fun and it feels like they're a kid again on the playground playing with friends. So this is not just for adults. They have sizes for children as well. It's just a great workout," she said.

Lisa Marie is already a convert.

"I feel like it's fun. It's exciting, but also challenging in a way for me to keep my core tight the whole time. We always say that... but this — you have to."
