Brea Park Mall, Olive Garden Restaurant Evacuated Due To Gas Leak

BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — The Brea Park Mall and a nearby Olive Garden restaurant were evacuated Wednesday due to a gas leak.

Construction crews were digging a trench near La Palma and Dale avenues to run utilities to a new Smash Burger restaurant when they struck a gas line just after 10 a.m., according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

More than 50 businesses with an estimated 250 workers, as well as shoppers, were evacuated.

A strong odor could be smelled in the area, as it took almost two hours for the gas to be turned off.

The Gas Company was at the scene.

No other details were immediately available.
