Man's Burned Body Found In Tent Behind Riverside Home

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A man's burned body was discovered in a tent behind a Riverside home on Tuesday.

Shortly after 4 p.m., neighbors reported a fire in the rear of a residence in the 6200 block of Stover Avenue.

Firefighters discovered the victim after they extinguished the blaze at what had been a makeshift cooking area.

"Just suspicious at this point. We don't suspect anything as of yet. We just gotta get in there and do our investigation. And then the coroner needs to examine the body," said Riverside police Sgt. David Amador.

Investigators believe the victim had been living in the small tent for about a year.

The property's elderly homeowner, however, couldn't remember the agreement she had with the man.

"I didn't even know the young man," she told KCAL9's Crystal Cruz.

The cause of the fire is unknown; the investigation is ongoing.
