Man, 91, Accused Of Driving Wrong-Way For Miles On 14 Freeway After Missing Exit

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — The California Highway Patrol says they've impounded the car of an elderly man accused of driving in the wrong direction along a stretch of a highway in the Antelope Valley.

The CHP took the 91-year-old driver home after stopping him on the 14 Freeway in Lancaster.

Prior to the traffic stop, officers say the man had traveled south in the northbound lanes for several miles.

"When asked why he was driving the wrong way, he said he basically missed his exit," said CHP Officer David Helfrich.

"He was coming from Palmdale so he decided to turn around and drive in the center divide," Helfrich said.

The incident unfolded around midnight Sunday.

No one was hurt.

The CHP says man's driver's license had expired.

The driver, however, was not arrested.
