Pedestrian Struck, Reportedly Killed In South Whittier

SOUTH WHITTER (CBSLA.com) — The CHP reports that a pedestrian was struck and killed in South Whittier Friday evening.

The unidentified victim was hit at Mulberry Drive, just east of Painter Avenue, according to authorities.

The accident was reported at 5:18 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

The pedestrian was struck by a gray Chrysler, Kimball said.

Early reports said the victim was in critical condition but the CHP told CBS2/KCAL9 that the pedestrian was killed. It was not revealed if the victim was a male or female.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver stopped after hitting the victim. It was not clear if the driver was cited.
