At Least 2 Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash At East LA Bus Stop

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  — An SUV crashed at a bus stop in East Los Angeles on Wednesday, injuring at least two people.

The accident was reported about 5:30 p.m., according to officials.

Authorities said the driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot with a small child.

The accident occurred at Whittier Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard.

Officials believe the driver of the Yukon lost control of the vehicle, which rolled up onto the sidewalk.

Authorities told KCAL9's Suraya Fadel the driver was speeding.

LA County Fire said two people, a man and a woman, were transported to a nearby hospital.

The 20-something woman was walking with her boyfriend at the time of the crash. She was thrown several feet into the air and reportedly suffered major head trauma, according to Fadel.

Witnesses said the SUV continued on for another 30 feet before crashing into the bus stop.

A man in his late 50s or early 60s was hit at the bus stop, according to Fadel.

That victim was trapped under the vehicle.

"The driver didn't stop, render any aid, exchange any information," said CHP Sgt. Connie Gomez.

Authorities say the driver is still at large. The vehicle is registered to a couple that lives in Cudahy.

"If there was a child in the vehicle, there was also no car seat," said Gomez, "it's child endangerment as well."

The Yukon was taken into evidence.
