Friends, Neighbors Of Teacher Shot In Leg During LAX Rampage Send Him Good Thoughts

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Friends and neighbors of a high school teacher shot in the leg during Friday's deadly LAX rampage sent him good thoughts, prayers and well wishes Saturday.

Brittney Hopper spoke to many of Brian Ludmer's loved ones outside UCLA Medical Center where he is recuperating.

Ludmer is a teacher at Calabasas High School.

The man's friends are shocked that Friday's tragedy hit them, literally, so close to home.

"It's unbelievable," said John Diresta, a friend of many years. "When I found out he was one of the guys who was shot, I just couldn't believe it.

He said Ludmer is the kind of guy everyone wants to be friends with.

"He's happy-go-lucky, he always has a smile on his face. For this to happen to him makes me very sad," said Diresta.

Ludmer was at LAX, about to board a plane to go east for a  wedding.

"I couldn't believe he was hot, I couldn't believe it was him," said neighbor Nancy Hernandez.

Friends and neighbors told Hopper that Ludmer can often be found in his garage building things to donate to children.

They are all hoping he makes a speedy recovery.

"I feel bad for his family, his parents and everyone around him," said another neighbor.

Doctors say Ludmer is expected to make a full recovery.
