Husband Of Montebello Mayor Charged With Selling Meth Near School

MONTEBELLO (CBSLA.com) — The husband of Montebello's mayor was charged Thursday with six felony counts of selling methamphetamine near a school.

Ruben Guerrero, 44, was arrested Oct. 17 following an undercover sting operation, Los Angeles County district attorney's officials said. Guerrero was charged with three counts each of possession for sale of a controlled substance and sale or transportation of a controlled substance.

According to the criminal complaint, Guerrero sold methamphetamine on three separate occasions — Sept. 26, Oct. 2 and Oct. 15 — within 1,000 feet of Montebello Intermediate School. The sale, made to an undercover sheriff's detective, was recorded with both audio and video equipment, sheriff's officials said.

Guerrero, the husband of Montebello Mayor Christina Cortez, is free after posting $60,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Nov. 7.
