Officer Punched While Trying To Break Up Brawl At Ventura Bar

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say an officer was punched in the face while trying to break up a brawl at a sports bar in the city of Ventura.

Police say two officers were on foot patrol about 1:50 a.m. Sunday when they were hailed to Rookees Sports Bar, Lounge & Grill at 419 E. Main Street in reference to a fight.

Upon arriving on scene, the officers attempted to break up the brawl involving several people and security guards.

Police say it was then that an officer was punched by a 28-year-old man. That man was later identified by police as Angel Ramirez of Oxnard.

Authorities say Ramirez, who received moderate injuries during the incident, has since been booked at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of an assault on a police officer.
