SUV Flies Off Freeway And Smashes Into House; Driver Flees

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday were looking for a driver who lost control of his vehicle while on the Harbor Freeway and crashed into the back of a house.

The SUV crashed into one yard and then through another before smashing into the back of an unoccupied house in the 900 block of W. 17th Street around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses reported that the driver, a white male wearing shorts and a T-shirt, was confronted by a resident before he fled the scene on foot.

"I saw some guy come out, the owner of the house right next to us, he was grabbing onto a guy and out of nowhere he just shoved him and started running," a witness named Ceasar said.

Authorities were checking local hospitals for the suspect after blood was found on the front seat of the SUV.

It was unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
