LAUSD Police Headquarters Evacuated After Foul Odor Reported

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles School Police Department headquarters were evacuated Tuesday due to reports of a foul odor, officials said.

The office building located at 125 N. Beaudry Avenue was evacuated shortly after 11:30 a.m. due to reports of methane gas, according to a Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson.

Four employees who complained of symptoms were examined by medical personnel. The odor did not affect students at the nearby Roybal Learning Center, district officials said.

Dozens of firefighters and a Hazmat team were on scene to investigate the report, LA City Fire Captain Jamie Moore told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

"What we're doing is monitoring the air to see if we can get any indication that there is some sort of a hazardous material or chemical here," Moore said. "At the current time, none of our readings come back positive."

The Roybal Learning Center was opened in 2008 after a years-long battle over its proximity to capped oil and natural gas wells.
