Authorities said 41-year-old Rene Balbuena was shot and killed in South Los Angeles Saturday evening during an attempted robbery. His unidentified 15-year-old son suffered a graze wound in the incident.

Police believe two black male suspects in their 20s placed an ad on Craig’s List for a cellphone to lure and ambush Balbuena in the area of 92nd Street and Gramercy Place.

“The suspects began demanding that the victims hand over their money. Balbuena exited the vehicle and one of the suspects began shooting,” Det. Dean Vinluan said.
